Swedish House Mafia admitted their reunion in 2018 stemmed from a desire to collaborate musically once more, confessing they had grown tired of being apart since their split in 2012.

In an exclusive interview, Swedish House Mafia, the iconic electronic music group, discuss their much-anticipated return in 2022, nine years after their unexpected split.

The breakup in 2012 left a sour taste in the mouths of their millions of fans worldwide. The trio, consisting of Steve Angello, Axwell, and Sebastian Ingrosso, felt they had reached a point where they were uncertain about their next artistic direction and no longer fully loved being together as a group.

Despite the breakup announcement in June 2012, Swedish House Mafia released one final single, "Don't You Worry Child," in September 2012, which became their most successful hit, breaking over 1 billion streams and achieving crossover mainstream success. The farewell tour that was planned to end in 2012 was extended due to their growing popularity, culminating in their final performance at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2013.

Since the split, the members pursued solo projects and individual endeavors. Fans eagerly anticipated their return, which first happened with a partial reunion at Ultra Music Festival in 2018. They waited until 2021 to release new music as Swedish House Mafia, dropping singles like "It Gets Better" and "Lifetime." Their comeback culminated with the release of their album Paradise Again on April 15, 2022.

Reflecting on their past, the band members acknowledge that there was tension and irritation during their final days due to exhaustion. They lived together, which contributed to the tension, as is common in such living arrangements. Rumors began to surface that the trio's relationship was falling apart after the split. However, in their second documentary 'Leave The World Behind' in 2014, these rumors were exposed, with Sebastian Ingrosso declaring that they were not best friends anymore.

Swedish House Mafia confirmed that their statement in 2012 was made spontaneously during a show. They embarked on one of the greatest world tours in electronic music history from 2012 to the split. "Don't You Worry Child" was arguably the song of the year globally in 2012.

Looking forward, Swedish House Mafia is preparing for their return in 2022. After a break, the members now realize they needed time apart to appreciate their music and each other again. The band decided to end their tour and group on the spot without prior planning, but their journey has been marked by an initial phenomenal run, a breakup driven by creative uncertainty and the desire for solo growth, followed by a gradual reunion and return to releasing new collaborative material nearly a decade later.
