SWAT star Shemar Moore discloses desired plot resolution for his spinoff series, expressing his urgent demand that it unfolds as he envisions.
The upcoming spinoff series of the canceled SWAT, titled SWAT Exiles, is set to make waves with its new cast and storylines. The series will star Shemar Moore as Hondo, leading a new team of recruits, but it will also feature a return for one of the original series' beloved characters - Devin Gamble, played by Annie Ilonzeh.
Ilonzeh, who joined the SWAT cast for its final season, has expressed a desire for her character's storyline to continue in SWAT Exiles. In an interview, she revealed that the planned storyline for Devin's twin brother, Leon, would focus on resolving the cliffhanger involving Leon's shady behavior and his need to prove to Devin that he is not involved in illicit activities.
Leon, as described by Ilonzeh, has "really disappointed her, lied, and ended up being shady," causing significant emotional conflict for Devin. The storyline would explore Leon trying to regain Devin’s trust and the complex dynamic of their shared history, as they come from "the same womb." Ilonzeh expressed excitement about the opportunity to revisit this storyline in SWAT Exiles, highlighting the popularity of the twins' dynamic among fans and her willingness to return to explore it.
The series is expected to pick up the unresolved tension between Devin and Leon Gamble, focusing on family loyalty, betrayal, and potential redemption within their twin relationship. However, it remains uncertain if other stars from the original SWAT series could return to SWAT Exiles.
SWAT Exiles has only 10 episodes, making it a limited series. No other casting news has been announced for the spinoff, but more information is expected to be revealed soon. In the meantime, fans can catch up with the eighth and final season of the original SWAT series, which is currently streaming with a Paramount+ subscription.
The cast of the original SWAT series demonstrated that they considered each other as family, and this camaraderie was evident on and off the set. It remains to be seen how this dynamic will translate to the spinoff, but with the emotional weight of the Gamble siblings' storyline, SWAT Exiles is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the SWAT universe.
