Swarm of jellyfish attacks during open water event at Teluk Senangin, affecting numerous, including Raja Kecil Besar Perak
In a shocking turn of events, a bus carrying pupils and teachers from Pusat Asuhan Tunas Islam (Pasti) Ampang was involved in a crash at Jalan Persiaran Universiti 1 in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in Serdang. The incident occurred at 12.18pm on Monday.
According to a statement made by Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Farid Ahmad, the bus was en route from a chocolate factory to the G2G Animal Garden at Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps) at the time of the crash. The crash involved a collision with a tree within the UPM campus.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, who has 13 previous traffic summonses registered under his name, may have dozed off due to driver fatigue and lack of sleep. It is important to note that the driver was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during preliminary screening.
Dashcam footage of the incident has circulated widely on social media, showing the chaotic aftermath of the crash. A teacher and three Pasti Ampang pupils sustained injuries in the crash. Rescue efforts used hydraulic cutters, and the injured were hospitalized.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that they will carry out a Safety Inspection and Audit (JISA) on the bus operator, and JPJ will take further action once the audit findings are available. This move follows similar actions in other recent bus crashes, where regulatory measures like safety audits and legal action against drivers have been applied to improve road safety and operator accountability.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of driver vigilance and the need for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations. As we await the full investigation report, our thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families.
