Starting April 1, a 50% seasonal discount on commuter train fares for senior residents will be reinstated across Sverdlovsk Oblast, remaining in effect until October 31. This was announced to Oblastnaya Gazeta by the press service of the Sverdlovsk Railway (SvZhD).
Sverdlovsk Oblast pensioners get 50% off train fares this summer
The discount is available upon presentation of an ID confirming residency in Sverdlovsk Oblast, along with proof of pensioner status—such as a pension certificate marked for old-age insurance benefits, a retiree's ID, or a statement from a local branch of Russia's Pension and Social Insurance Fund confirming receipt of an old-age insurance pension. Passengers must carry these documents with them during travel.
Discounted tickets can be purchased at ticket offices of the Sverdlovsk Suburban Passenger Company or, if boarding from a station without a ticket office, directly on the train.
The press service also noted that within the municipal boundaries of Yekaterinburg—where a unified city fare (UCF) has been in place since 2023—the cost of a single-ride ticket for seniors, regardless of distance and without transfers, will be 22 rubles from April 1 to October 31 after the discount is applied. The UCF covers 48 stations and stops on the Sverdlovsk Railway, with 133 commuter trains operating in a "surface metro" format.
A full list of regional benefits is available on the website of the Sverdlovsk Suburban Passenger Company and at commuter train ticket offices.
Oblastnaya Gazeta previously reported that the Sverdlovsk Railway plans to renovate over 300 kilometers of track in 2026.
