Sverdlovsk clinic's modern facilities sit idle amid crippling doctor shortages

Clinic No. 3 in Sverdlovsk Oblast's Akademitscheski District is struggling with severe staff shortages, despite its modern facilities. While general practitioners offer same-day appointments, patients face long waits for specialist care—especially in traumatology, where most doctors have left their posts.

The clinic, located at Akademika-Parina Street, House 35/3, opened with plans for 12 traumatologists. By March 2026, only seven remained. Now, just one doctor handles all trauma cases, leaving advanced medical equipment unused due to the lack of personnel.

General practitioners at the clinic operate in two shifts but only start consultations at 3:00 PM. This contrasts with the trauma unit's limited availability, where patients often struggle to secure appointments. Wait times for specialists exceed two weeks, adding to the strain. The CCCH No. 6 trauma unit covers weekday hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with Clinic No. 3 staff assisting during maintenance periods. Meanwhile, all 26 therapeutic units at Clinic No. 3 remain fully staffed, according to CCCH No. 6 officials. However, a source from NashSait.RU reports that many specialists have resigned following a change in leadership. Sverdlovsk Oblast currently needs an additional 2,500 doctors to meet demand for accessible healthcare across the region.

The shortages at Clinic No. 3 highlight broader challenges in the region's healthcare system. With only one traumatologist available and specialist wait times stretching beyond two weeks, patients continue to face delays—despite the clinic's modern infrastructure and fully staffed therapeutic units.
