Football in Voerde: A Summer Shuffle for SV Spellen

The familiar faces at SV Spellen might take a backseat this season as the A-Ligist prepares for a roster overhaul. With the team's summer practice starting on July 1, a fresh batch of players will step onto the Groelberg field.

While newcomers have been scarce in recent years, with the squad primarily strengthened from within, this time brings a wave of new arrivals. Prominent among them is the arrival of Michael Tyrann, the new head coach, along with his active assistants Oliver Vos and Rico Schendel, who join SV Spellen from their last stop, SV Brûnen.

Joining them is the highly anticipated goalkeeping talent Ben Breuer, transferring from PSV Wesel-Lackhausen. Leon Kitschke, a former B-Ligist player of TuS Drevenack, craves the challenge of a higher level, much like Yannick Dera, who comes from GW Lankern. Kevin Amerkamp, a long-time Drevenack player, also joins the team, having been lured to Brûnen by Tyrann in the winter and now following him to Spellen.

Saying Goodbye to Familiar Faces

As the team welcomes new teammates, it's not all smiles. Spellen will bid farewell to the services of Gianluca Klein and the former captain Felix Becker, who are moving to the Bezirksliga promotion team Hamminkelner SV. Additionally, Jonas Wiemann, Lars Puschmann, and Max Schwarz are also leaving. Despite efforts to replenish the ranks with youth talents from within, the team was unable to maintain an A-junior squad.

Lars Wehrs, the sporting director of SVS, acknowledges the changes: "With so many new additions, we also have significant departures, and we were forced to act. It wasn't always easy to lure players to Spellen in recent years. Now, with our new coach’s connections, we're reaping the benefits."

A Bright Future Awaits with New Talent

Wehrs expresses satisfaction with the current squad, hinting at a blend of accomplished veterans and promising youngsters. The team is raring to go for the new season: "We can still look back on the past years, where André Feldkamp and his team did an exceptional job. Now we have a mix of seasoned players and young talents, and we can hardly wait for it to start again."

Ben Breuer's Second Chance in Goal

The most surprising move might just be the signing of 19-year-old goalkeeper Ben Breuer. After suffering a hand wrist fracture in training and an unsuccessful subsequent operation, many thought his career was over. However, Breuer underwent another operation that reportedly went well, and Tyrann is thrilled to have him on board: "He has not started yet, and we'll have to build him up slowly, but I'm glad he chose to join us. In my opinion, he's a fantastic goalkeeper talent."

Tyrann's Long-Time Target Achieved with Yannick Dera

Striker Yannick Dera has been on Tyrann's radar for quite some time. Having worked with Dera at Lackhausen and Hamminkeln, Tyrann attempted to bring him to Brûnen last year, but Dera's decision wasn't in favor of the move. Tyrann's persistence paid off, with Dera now joining the team from Lankern, where he has consistently scored in double digits in the past two seasons.

Negotiations with another potential recruit are ongoing, but a final agreement has not yet been reached.

  1. The European-leagues might see a new name this season as Ben Breuer, the highly anticipated goalkeeping talent from PSV Wesel-Lackhausen, joins SV Spellen during their summer roster overhaul.
  2. With the arrival of Yannick Dera, a striker who has scored in double digits in the past two seasons, SV Spellen is looking forward to a refreshed attack in the upcoming season, following the departure of long-time players like Gianluca Klein and Felix Becker.
