Sustained High-Speed Sailing: Pip Hare Joins Canada Ocean Racing for The Ocean Race Europe
In the exciting world of sailing, anticipation is growing for The Ocean Race Europe 2025, with non-French teams gearing up to make a significant impact. One of the most intriguing collaborations to watch is between British sailor Pip Hare and Canadian skipper Scott Shawyer.
Scott Shawyer, who announced his Vendeé Globe ambitions for 2022, has been working closely with Vendeé veterans Alex Thomson and Nick Moloney to prepare for the 2028 race. He has also been collaborating with Pip Hare since the commencement of his campaign. Shawyer considers Hare a ruthless competitor with a huge heart and a valuable asset to his team.
Hare, who dismasted in the 2024 Vendeé Globe, is currently seeking a new title sponsor for her Vendeé Globe 2028 campaign. She will be driving the sailing program for the next two months. Hare is looking forward to sailing with other IMOCA sailors and learning about managing a fully crewed foiling IMOCA.
The race begins on August 10, 2025, and the challenging course for The Ocean Race Europe 2025 includes three legs. Leg 2, covering 1,400 nautical miles from Portsmouth, England, to Cartagena, Spain, includes a flypast in Matosinhos/Porto, Portugal. Leg 3, a shorter but technically demanding 650 nautical mile leg through the Mediterranean, takes the fleet from Cartagena to Nice, France, and then to Genova, and finally to Montenegro.
Leg 2 of The Ocean Race Europe is anticipated to be enormous, with potential wind shadows and parking up issues in the Mediterranean posing significant challenges. The stopovers during the race are expected to be short. The course for Leg 4 from Genoa to Montenegro is a complete unknown for Hare as it is an area in the Mediterranean she hasn't been to before.
Scott Shawyer's team is about to acquire a new foiling IMOCA yacht, and Hare is excited about the opportunity to race in The Ocean Race Europe 2025 with such a dynamic team. As the countdown to the race begins, fans of sailing are eager to see how this promising collaboration between Hare and Shawyer will fare in the challenging course ahead.
