A chilling attack in Pahalgam and the response from the Indian government
Suspected Terror Attack in Kupwara's Jammu and Kashmir: Unfortunate Death of Civilian
In a tragic turn of events, a social activist named Ghulam Rasool Magray, aged 45, was shot dead in his own home in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The vile attack comes in the wake of intensified security operations against terrorists following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The motive behind Magray's killing is yet to be clarified.
The Pahalgam terror attack
On April 22, a horrific incident unfurled in Pahalgam when a group of terrorists stormed a secluded meadow, murdering 26 civilians, majority tourists. Nearly two dozen people sustained injuries in this heinous attack. The attack was condemned by numerous global leaders, including US President Donald Trump.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised that those responsible for the attack would be hunted down.
India's firm actions against Pakistan
In response to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian government has enacted strict measures against Pakistan. Notably, the crucial Indus Waters Treaty has been put on hold, and Pakistan's diplomatic staff has been significantly reduced. Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs has suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals and cancelled existing visas, requiring Pakistani residents to leave India.
Ongoing tensions and investigations
Pakistan, in response to India’s measures, has violated the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control multiple times this week. Indian forces have retaliated to all instances of provocation. Security forces have also now destroyed the homes of nine terrorists.
As for Pakistan's willingness to collaborate in the Pahalgam attack investigation, there remains a general sense of skepticism among Indian officials. Historically, Pakistan has been unresponsive to India's submitted evidence in terror attack probes.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding this ongoing investigation and India's efforts to combat terrorism.
