Suspected individual allegedly admitted to Charlie Kirk shooting in a Discord conversation
In a shocking turn of events, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been identified as the suspect in the assassination attempt on conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Robinson is facing several counts, including aggravated murder, following the incident on an unspecified date in 2025.
According to Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray, ideological motives appear to have played a significant role in the assassination attempt. Robinson, it seems, had grown increasingly radicalized in his political beliefs, a sentiment supported by his family and his own statements.
The confession, made on the online platform Discord, was provided to authorities by Robinson himself. In the confession, he admitted to his actions and provided details such as the location of a note declaring his intent to kill Kirk and information about the murder weapon.
Robinson had been planning the shooting for over a week before the incident. He communicated his intentions to his roommate, Lance Twiggs, through text messages. In one such exchange, Robinson discussed his intention to assassinate Kirk. Twiggs later provided evidence of Robinson's planning for the shooting, which dates back to September 10, 2025.
Robinson also mentioned attempting to retrieve the rifle he used in the shooting. This revelation came to light when he confessed to his actions in an online chat before surrendering to authorities.
The confession was sent approximately two hours before Robinson was taken into custody. Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray announced his intention to seek the death penalty in the case against Robinson.
The assassination attempt on Charlie Kirk has led to an increase in interest in working at Turning Point USA, the organisation Kirk founded. Kirk's books and podcasts have also topped charts following his death.
