Suspect to be transferred shortly
In a significant development, the Romanian Court of Appeal in Oradea has ordered the extradition of a 31-year-old man to Germany. The suspect is alleged to have been involved in the sexual abuse of a young girl at the Rulantica water park in South Baden.
The court ruling, confirmed by a court spokesperson to the German Press Agency on Monday, requires extradition to take place within ten days from August 16, 2025. This sets the deadline for the extradition around August 26, 2025. However, the exact date of his transfer is still under coordination between German and Romanian authorities.
The suspect was identified from surveillance videos shared by Europa-Park, and an arrest warrant was issued on suspicion of sexual abuse of a child. The incident involved a six-year-old child who got separated from their parents and was approached by the suspect, who then led the child into nearby woods and committed the abuse.
The proceedings between German and Romanian judicial authorities are ongoing, but no specific transfer date has been set yet. It remains unclear if the suspect has already been questioned by the authorities.
The suspect can be held for up to 30 days according to the Bucharest Police Prefecture. The arrest was made based on an international arrest warrant, and the suspect was apprehended in the village of Tileagd, northwest Romania, last month.
The child was found five kilometers away from the swimming pool after the incident, which occurred last Saturday at the Rulantica water park in South Baden, Germany. The details regarding whether the suspect has been interrogated are unclear. The exact date for the implementation of the extradition is yet to be agreed upon by German and Romanian authorities.
