Suspect linked to liverpool parade accident now faces additional accusations
Paul Doyle, the man accused of driving into crowds during Liverpool's Premier League victory parade, has faced an additional 24 charges, bringing the total to 48. The incident occurred on Water Street in Liverpool's city centre just after 6pm on May 26.
Doyle, aged 53, initially faced seven offenses related to the incident. However, new charges include 23 assault charges and one count of affray. The charges also include two allegations involving victims who were babies, one aged six months and one aged seven months. A wounding charge and an attempted grievous bodily harm charge relate to children, aged 11 and 17.
Merseyside Police reported that 134 people were injured when Doyle allegedly drove his Ford Galaxy Titanium into crowds. The charges were announced during a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday. Doyle appeared over video link from prison and was seen wearing a grey T-shirt.
Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC adjourned the case until 4 September for Doyle to enter pleas on the new charges. The hearing, which lasted about 20 minutes, did not see any pleas entered for the previously mentioned charges.
Earlier this year, a provisional trial date was fixed for 24 November, but this has yet to be confirmed. The case is expected to last three to four weeks. Doyle, at the time of the charges, was from Croxteth, Liverpool. The case is expected to resume on 4 September for Doyle to enter pleas.
