Suspect indicted for alleged attempt on Charlie Kirk's life, sheriff reveals he conceded to a peaceful surrender, expressing fear of lethal force.
In a shocking turn of events, Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man, appeared in court virtually on Wednesday to face charges in the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA. The shooting occurred at the Losee Center at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Kirk was pronounced dead a short while later. The incident marked the tragic end of the first event of Kirk's The American Comeback tour.
According to authorities, Robinson climbed onto the roof of the Losee Center and discharged one round from a rifle, striking Kirk in the neck.
Robinson faces charges including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, witness tampering, and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child.
Prior to his apprehension, Robinson was described as "quiet and somber." He was turned over to police by a former law enforcement friend, who made a call at 8:02 p.m. on a Thursday.
Robinson's relative, who is the lover of Lance Twiggs, Robinson's roommate, stated that he has a hatred for conservatives and Christians. Twiggs, however, is currently in a "safe space very far away from St. George," the Utah town where the pair lived.
In a surprising twist, it was revealed that Lance Twiggs is a transgender individual transitioning from male to female. The name origin of Lance Twiggs is not detailed in the search results, but Twiggs has informally changed their Stream profile name to Luna, although they have not formally adopted a new name yet.
Authorities stated that Robinson had suicidal thoughts but was convinced by his parents not to harm himself. Robinson was afraid of a SWAT raid on his home and being shot by the police, which may have contributed to his actions.
Brooksby's office did not question Robinson while he waited for the lead investigators to arrive. Law enforcement officials from outside of Brooksby's agency are now talking to Twiggs' associates.
A memorial honoring Charlie Kirk is flooded with posters, flowers, and American flags at Timpanogos Regional Hospital and on Utah Valley University's campus.
