Suspect in pipe bomb explosion incident in Westmoreland County apprehended, according to state police report
In a significant development, James Sever, the accused, was arrested in Indiana County on Tuesday night, ending a two-month manhunt. Sever, who used to live on the first floor of the building that is currently being investigated for arson, is suspected of causing an explosion by placing a pipe bomb under his former landlord's lawnmower on July 20.
Troopers from the Kiski Valley barracks responded to the explosion on July 20, which occurred at a home in Salem Township. Investigators later learned that an explosive device was placed underneath the lawnmower and went off when the man started it.
The arrest warrant for Sever was issued on July 25, and he was charged with attempted homicide and unlawful possession of weapons of mass destruction, among other offences.
Interestingly, it was previously mentioned that Sever was likely getting around on an e-bike. However, it was not previously mentioned that he was spotted riding his e-bike before his arrest.
The arrest took place near Homer City on the Hoodlebug Trail.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the house fire in Salem Township, which occurred on Aug. 22 and is being investigated as arson, continues. The building in Salem Township went up in flames, and no update has been provided on the investigation.
Pennsylvania State Police are conducting the investigation into the house fire in Westmoreland County, but no information has been provided about any reward for information related to the investigation.
It is important to note that while Sever has been arrested in connection with the July explosion, the connection between him and the house fire on August 22 at the same property is yet to be confirmed by authorities.
