Suspect in 1985 Air India Bombing Dead After Shooting in Canada – According to Reports

In the heart of Vancouver, British Columbia, a shocking incident unfolded on July 15, 2022. Ripudaman Singh Malik, a former advocate of the Sikh separatist Khalistan movement, was reportedly murdered outside his garment company. The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about ongoing tensions related to the movement.

Vancouver, a city known for its vibrant multicultural community, is home to a large Sikh immigrant populace. The city has seen its fair share of Sikh-related incidents in the past, most notably the Air India bombing case.

The Air India bombing, which took place in 1985, was a significant act of airborne terrorism before the September 11 attacks in the United States. The bombing of Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland was the most deadly act of airborne terrorism before that fateful day in 2001. Another bomb exploded at Japan's Narita airport, killing 2 employees who were loading baggage onto an Air India flight.

Inderjit Singh Reyat, a key suspect in the Air India bombing plot, was found guilty of making the bombs and lying at the trials of fellow terrorists, including Ripudaman Singh Malik. He served 20 years in prison and was paroled in 2016. However, Ripudaman Singh Malik was acquitted in the 1985 Air India mass murder case for lack of evidence. Ajaib Singh Bagri, another suspect, was also acquitted in 2005.

The Air India bombing plot was reportedly in retaliation for the storming of the Golden Temple in Amritsar by Indian soldiers. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police believe the recent shooting of Ripudaman Singh Malik was a targeted attack.

On the day of the shooting, a male was found with gunshot injuries and died at the scene. A car believed to have been driven by the shooters was found a few kilometers away, engulfed in fire. Police are currently searching for another vehicle that the shooters may have used to escape.

The acquittal of Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri in 2005 was controversial, with prosecutors claiming that the verdict would have been different if Inderjit Singh Reyat had told the truth on the stand. The ongoing tensions related to the Sikh separatist Khalistan movement continue to cast a shadow over the city of Vancouver.

As the investigation into Ripudaman Singh Malik's murder continues, the city waits with bated breath, hoping for answers and a resolution to the ongoing tensions. The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the dark chapter in Vancouver's history and the lingering effects of the Air India bombing.
