Suspect detained for alleged crossbow assault on ex-UVF member; awaiting further judicial proceedings
Matthew Allison, a 42-year-old man, appeared in Coleraine Magistrates' Court on Monday, accused of a series of charges related to a crossbow attack on former UVF member Darren Moore.
The court was informed that on Friday, a crossbow bolt was shot through Moore's cheek in Ballymena, causing him grievous bodily harm. Moore, 54, was rushed to the hospital and was discharged on Friday night.
The charges against Allison include possessing a crossbow with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, wounding Moore with intent to cause harm, and attempting to wound a second man with intent to cause harm.
Detective Constable McClean stated that he believes he can connect Allison to each of the charges.
Allison did not apply for bail on Monday, and no new address for him was put forward. The solicitor for Allison suggested adjourning the case to Thursday in the hope of finding an address.
Judge Peter King ordered Allison to reappear in court on Thursday. Allison remains in custody.
