A 44-Year-Old Accused of Pushing Partner into the Spree: The Berlin Trial

Partner collision during shopping leads to trial for 44-year-old individual - Suspect Accused of Pushing Partner during Ramble through City

You'd think our city's criminals would stick to petty theft or loitering, but no! Here's a bloody shocker, folks. A 44-year-old man stands accused of shoving his partner into Berlin's beloved Spree River during an heated argument, back on August 2, 2024. The woman, 43 and primarily wheelchair-bound, couldn't swim and was justifiably tipsy—but not prepared for a dip in the chilly water below the Stubenrauch Bridge.

Unlucky for our suspect, the cops swooped in and plucked the hapless non-swimmer from her watery death trap. She clung desperate-like to a concrete ledge before a passing patrol boat rescued her, totally exhausted and shivering like a chill-induced rag doll.

Fast forward to now, and our man is facing charges of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm. The case is currently unfolding at the Berlin Regional Court, with the suspect himself due to spill the beans on the allegations later on.

As odd as it sounds, the couple was reportedly homeless at the time and living rough by the Spree. The suspect, once a construction worker, was nabbed by the fuzz in December 2024 and has been behind bars ever since. The trial will continue on March 25, so stay tuned for more updates on this wild tale!

General Crime and the Spree River

While Berlin has seen an overall increase in crime, including some violent offenses, the Spree River isn't typically a hotspot for criminal activities. It's more often associated with leisure activities like boat rides and hanging out. To find specific details about the trial or other incidents on the Spree, hit up the local news or legal sources. Catch you on the flip side!

The accused individual, once a construction worker, is currently mandated to explain the allegations of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm during the ongoing trial at the Berlin Regional Court. Previously homeless, the couple was living near the Spree River, where the alleged incident occurred. Despite the Spree River's tranquil reputation, it has recently emerged as a site for significant local news, including this trial and other criminal incidents.
