Basking in Bundesliga Joy: Kiel Keeps Faith in Survival Amidst Relegation Gauntlet
Calm instead of panic: Kiel advocates for staying in school. - Survival through encouragement: Kiel advocates for group resilience over fear.
You know what they say, when life gives you lemons, make a freakin' lemonade! And that's exactly what Holstein Kiel is doing, turning their relegation battle into a celebration of survival.
Holstein Kiel's coach, Marcel Rapp, is as cool as a cucumber in the midst of this pressure cooker. "I ain't feelin' no pressure, babes. We got nothin' to lose. This here is an opportunity, and believe me, we're gonna grab it with both hands," Rapp hilariously exclaimed ahead of their last home game against SC Freiburg this Saturday (3:30 PM/Sky). "If we do get relegated, it'll be a bummer for sure. But let's be honest, it's just another day of the week for a lotta folks. It's the fact that we're still in the mix for the playoffs that's a freakin' sensation!"
With only two games left in the season, Kiel sits just one point behind 1. FC Heidenheim for the 16th relegation playoff spot. Coming off recent victories against Gladbach and Augsburg, the Schleswig-Holsteiners have found themselves in a Goldilocks zone of good form.
"With our current streak, it's impossible not to feel optimistic, man! Coulda never imagined this at the start of the season," Rapp enthusiastically admitted. "The gap between us and many others? It's the attitude, my friends. We're playin' with joy, not fear. And I reckon that's a damn big advantage!"
However, Rapp's got his hands full with an injured striker, Shuto Machino. Yet, the Japanese player has shown remarkable resilience, training individually throughout the week, and Rapp is hopeful Machino will be fit in time for their game against the Champions League contender.
