School principals in Rhineland-Palatinate aren't overly thrilled with the current state of education policies, according to a recent survey. Published by Forsa on behalf of the Verband Bildung und Erziehung (VBE), the poll gave an average score of 4.7 to school policy in the region. This is consistent with the grade given the year prior, with 105 head teachers in Rhineland-Palatinate and a nationwide total of 1310 participating.

The Biggest Challenges 😟

Teacher shortages continue to be the leading issue facing schools in Rhineland-Palatinate. Also highlighted were problems with inclusion and integration, along with high workloads and time constraints. In addition, schools reported burdensome bureaucracy and challenges with school buildings as further concerns.

Head Teachers' Job Satisfaction 😐

Just over half of the surveyed head teachers in Rhineland-Palatinate reported that they could only occasionally or never fulfilled their professional duties to their satisfaction. Meanwhile, only a quarter consistently felt supported by their pupils, accounting for every second principal in the region. However, 75 percent of the respondents expressed strong backing from their teaching staff, generally.

On the Bright Side 😊

Despite these struggles, an overwhelming 71% of Rhineland-Palatinate head teachers enjoy their jobs overall. This is below the national average of 83%, with just over one third of principals in the region recommending the profession to others.
