Surveillance Subject A6 Awaits High Court Decision on Preventive Bail

In a significant development, Justice K. Sujana of the Telangana High Court has reserved orders on the anticipatory bail application filed by Aruvela Shravan Kumar Rao, the managing director of i-News, in a phone-tapping case that is being investigated in Hyderabad.

Shravan Kumar, who is accused as number 6 in the case, has claimed that the warrant issued against him was a result of a motivated and biased move by the investigating agency in adding him to the case.

The phone-tapping case involves six accused individuals, three of whom have already received bail: Mekala Tirupathanna, P. Radhakishan Rao, and N. Bhujanga Rao. However, the main accused T. Prabhakar Rao and Dugyala Praneeth Rao are yet to receive bail.

The XIV additional chief metropolitan magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant against Shravan Kumar, and a similar warrant has been issued by the court in Hyderabad. The investigating agencies have also filed a petition before a lower court with a plea to declare Shravan Kumar as a 'proclaimed offender.'

During the hearing on Friday, Senior Counsel Venkatesh, representing Shravan Kumar, stated that despite being abroad, Shravan Kumar had made all relevant information public and was ready to cooperate with the investigation, subject to being granted bail. The public prosecutor, Palle Nageshwar Rao, opposed Shravan Kumar's petition during the hearing.

The investigation has uncovered serious offenses related to phone-tapping, and according to the FSL report, phones of 19 High Court judges and one Supreme Court judge were tapped during the case. The court was informed that the details of the tapped phones were provided to the High Court in a sealed cover.

Shravan Kumar claims to have sent an e-mail to the Hyderabad police commissioner, expressing his readiness to cooperate with the investigation. The judge reserved the petition for orders in the hearing.

The authority that issued an arrest warrant against Shravan Kumar was the Mumbai Police. The hearing on Shravan Kumar's petition took place on Friday. The exact date for the delivery of the verdict is yet to be announced.
