Surveillance Cameras Installed in Schools for Safety Enhancement
In a bid to enhance security in school buildings, the city of Oberhausen is set to equip its schools with video surveillance recording systems. This decision, made by the city council, follows a motion requested by the SPD and supported by the city councilor.
The video surveillance systems will be installed for security purposes, but not during school hours or regular activities such as sports club offers. The recordings will take place only outside of these usage times, ensuring the privacy and safety of students and staff during school operations.
Mayor Manfred Flore believes that video recording can have a significant deterrent effect on potential perpetrators.
