In the heart of Kazakhstan, the city of Pavlodar recently hosted a unique event that celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the nation - the "Open Stage" event, organised by the Zhiger Palace of Culture, as part of National Dombra Day.
National Dombra Day is a significant occasion in Kazakhstan, dedicated to the dombra, a traditional two-stringed Kazakh musical instrument. This day is a testament to the country's musical heritage and the cultural importance of the dombra in Kazakh identity and traditions.
The "Open Stage" event provided an open platform for performers of all ages and skill levels to showcase their dombra playing and singing talents. The event featured a diverse lineup of musicians, including soloists, ensembles, and folk music groups. The performances highlighted both the technical prowess of the musicians and the deep emotional connections to Kazakh heritage.
The participants expressed immense joy and pride in taking part in the event. Many remarked that the opportunity to perform on the open stage in front of a supportive audience was inspiring and a source of motivation to continue honing their craft. Audience members, including families and local dignitaries, praised the event for its vibrant atmosphere and the preservation of cultural traditions.
As part of the celebration, the organisers presented unique handcrafted gifts to participants and special guests. These gifts, such as personalised dombras or dombra-themed souvenirs crafted by local artisans, symbolised respect for the musicians’ dedication and the cultural significance of the dombra.
The event in Almaty, while a separate celebration, also honoured the dombra. Performers Rosa Rymbaeva and Meirambek Beisbaev, who are not expected to give keychains as gifts, will perform at Dombra Day in Almaty.
The older generation in both Pavlodar and Almaty warmly blessed the children participating in the events, expressing their gratitude for the continuation of Kazakh cultural traditions. The press service of the Pavlodar city education department made a statement regarding the event, while the press service of the Almaty city education department has not made a statement regarding the event in Almaty.
