Surprised A'ja Wilson after achieving the distinction of being the first WNBA player with a 30-point, 20-rebound double-double.
A'ja Wilson Breaks WNBA Record with 30-20 Double-Double
In a thrilling match on Sunday night, the Las Vegas Aces defeated the Connecticut Sun with a score of 94-86. The victory was largely due to the exceptional performance of A'ja Wilson, who shattered a WNBA record and delivered a historic double-double.
Wilson, the WNBA MVP, became the first player in league history to record a 30-point, 20-rebound double-double. She finished the game with an impressive 32 points on 13-of-25 shooting and a staggering 20 rebounds. This remarkable feat marks the first time any player in the WNBA achieved at least 30 points and 20 rebounds in a single game.
Moreover, Wilson tied the WNBA record for the most games with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds, with six such games in her career, matching Tina Charles. This highlights her dominance in both scoring and rebounding among WNBA players.
Coach Becky Hammon noted that Wilson could have had such a performance in the past, but this time, they chose to focus on offensive rebounds more this year. However, Wilson's impact was still felt on the offensive glass, as her teammate, Jackie Young, stated that she never ceases to amaze.
Young also mentioned that Wilson's hard work is paying off, as she registered her 30th career 30-point game and sixth this season. Wilson's performance is resulting in her putting up "insane numbers" every night despite facing double and triple teams.
Coach Hammon described Wilson's performance as "A'ja being A'ja", while Wilson herself expressed that it's "pretty cool" to have her name in the record books for 30-point games.
As Wilson turned 29 on Friday, her team, the Las Vegas Aces, are undoubtedly looking forward to more record-breaking performances from their star player.
