Surprise SGF Unveiling of Resident Evil Requiem (RE9): Expected Horror Game Set for February Launch

Geek It Out Today, at Summer Game Fest, Capcom dropped a big bomb: A new Resident Evil game, Requiem, is on its way. This creepy new installment promises moody corridors and a post-nuclear landscape (you'll never see it coming).

Requiem looks as unsettling as you'd hope, setting foot in stores less than a year from now on February 27, 2026. But don't get too excited-there's no towering vampire lady in sight, shattering the dreams of half the internet.

You've probably heard the rumors-those whispers about a possible RE9 appearance at the showcase. Rumors that Capcom even tried to throw us off the scent right up until the very end of the show.

Remember Maggie Robertson, the actress who brought Lady Dimitrescu to life in RE Village? She made an appearance earlier in the program, only for Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi to dash any hopes of RE9 during the event.

"Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you've all been waiting for, bear with us a little longer," Takeuchi said, grinning like a Cheshire cat. "Just a blink of an eye more, and it'll be ready."

Takeuchi, what a jerk!

Capcom pulled out all the stops during Summer Game Fest founder and host Geoff Keighley's final game reveal, slowly revealing that-surprise!-it was Resident Evil Requiem.

The trailer, available above, opens with a nerve-wracking edge, as a man storms through an FBI field office to ask for help from FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft on a case concerning a "Wremwood Hotel." This seems to be the place where Grace's mother met her untimely end.

When Grace sees the report, it seems to trigger memories of grim hallways, deserted buildings, cloaked figures, and chilling medical procedures. But then those memories shift, as Grace suddenly wakes up, drenched in sweat, hanging upside down on a gurney with a bloody bandage on her chest.

And things get weird!

We catch glimpses of wanted posters covering the walls, cryptic messages, and a man talking about finding a special, chosen one. To top it all off, there's a camera shot of Raccoon City's devastated Police Department and scenes of people either being, currently being, or about to be harmed by killers and mutated freaks-.regular Resident Evil stuff, right?

If you're like me and have no idea where to start making sense of this, don't worry. We don't have too much longer to wait. Resident Evil Requiem drops on store shelves on February 27, 2026.

By Lincoln CarpenterLincoln has been geeking out about games for 11 years-unless you count the essays he convinced his college professors to accept about the procedural storytelling in Dwarf Fortress. He leverages the brainworms from a misspent youth in World of Warcraft to write for sites like Waypoint, Polygon, and Fanbyte. After three years of freelancing, Lincoln joined PC Gamer in 2024 as a full-time News Writer, bringing expertise in Caves of Qud bird diplomacy, Crusader Kings murders, and dinosaur bashing in Monster Hunter.

Entertainment abounds as Capcom announces Resident Evil Requiem, their latest game, set to release on a bet for February 27, 2026. With the trailer offering chilling scenes of Resident Evil's signature gameplay, including killers, mutated freaks, and grim hallways, fans eagerly anticipate Requiem's release to make sense of these intriguing hints. No matter if you're a seasoned player or new to the game, Resident Evil Requiem promises to deliver an unforgettable experience, offering an exciting addition to this year's game lineup.
