Surprise prequel could potentially spotlight the past of weapon-wielding Aunt Gladys
Zach Cregger, the director of the 2025 hit horror film "Weapons," is in discussions with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema about developing a prequel that delves into the origin story of the standout character, Aunt Gladys. Played by Amy Madigan, Aunt Gladys's mysterious and chilling presence was a highlight of the original film.
Originally, a chapter focusing on Aunt Gladys was planned for "Weapons," but it was cut for length purposes. Now, the prequel is expected to expand this lost chapter into a full-length story, offering fans a deeper insight into the character's past.
No official deal has been finalized, and no release timeline has been established. However, the prequel is intended to reveal how Aunt Gladys became the central figure in the original film's plot.
Meanwhile, Cregger is also in the pre-production stage for his upcoming Resident Evil reboot, scheduled for 2026. In "Weapons," Aunt Gladys uses black magic to zombify Alex's parents and other Maybrook residents, with the goal of feeding off the energy of the zombified individuals to grow stronger.
