Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Picks Three Potential Successors Amid Threats from Israel

Supreme Leader Khamenei begins personal preparations for his departures

In a bid to ensure a smooth transition of power, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly chosen three senior clerics as potential successors in the event of his demise. This move comes amid heightened security concerns and ongoing conflicts with Israel, as reported by The New York Times.

Amidst these tensions, Khamenei finds himself in a secure underground bunker in Tehran, communicating only with a select few trusted individuals. To maintain stability within the military ranks, he has also appointed backups for key leadership positions, should senior commanders fall during the conflict.

The identities of these three potential successors remain undisclosed. Interestingly, Khamenei's son, Mojtaba Khamenei - previously considered a strong contender - does not feature on this shortlist.

The Assembly of Experts, the constitutional body responsible for selecting the next supreme leader, will likely be swiftly mobilized to make a decision, a process that usually takes months under normal circumstances. However, with the current circumstances posing a threat to the theocratic system, Khamenei seeks a quick and orderly succession.

Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has compared Khamenei to Hitler, adding to the escalating tensions. Despite these threats, Khamenei remains resolute, taking all necessary precautions to safeguard Iran's future.
