On Russia Day, a gleeful basketball tournament—nicknamed the "Sokol Village Cup"—took place in Kolyma. This topsy-turvy event gathered 40 sports enthusiasts hailing from an array of five teams. Thanks to the benevolence of Magadan Oblast Duma deputy Yevgeny Saltanov, it all went down without a hitch, as our press service reported.

Initiated by the hardworking folks at Sports School No. 5 and "Mayak" team player, Sergei Leonov, this competition aimed high. In Saltanov's eyes, such events are more than just a game; they foster a healthy lifestyle, build camaraderie, and instill leadership qualities among the under-25 set.

Saltanov, himself a maestro of sports boxing, declared, "Fresh talent needs room to shine. These competitions help distinguish top-notch athletes that eventually represent Kolyma at regional and national meets."

In the end, the "Mayak" team claimed gold, with the "Joker" squad finishing second and "Sokol" team capturing the bronze. The "Khasyn" and "Sokol-2" squads also threw their hats in the ring.

Before the big national celebration, Yevgeny Saltanov additionally bestowed scholarships upon the brightest minds of Sports School No. 5. The following students were recognized for their remarkable academic performance: Alexandra Onischenko, Viktor Sharapov, Egor Antonyuk (under coach, Sergei Karpenco), Anna Kivevkhai, Serafima Derkach, Sergei Efimov (judo, coached by Vladimir Mamonov), Dmitriy Permyakov (boxing, under the wing of Egor Gavrikan), Yanzhina Erdyneeva, Bogdan Mikhailov, Darya Badaraeva (chess, coached by Damba Badaraev), Agata Zaitseva, Varvara Agafonova (swimming, guided by Alexander Safonov and Mikhail Prilipa), and Maria Khramtsova (go, under Elena Savchenko's guidance).
