In a heartwarming display of football passion, Yannick Grieß, captain of Oberligist team FK Pirmasens, faced off against his childhood favourites, Hamburg SV (HSV), in the recent DFB-Pokals match. The game, which took place at the Sportpark Husterhöhe in front of 10,000 spectators, ended in a draw.

Grieß, who has been a devoted HSV fan since his childhood, scored the 1:0 lead for FK Pirmasens in the 53rd minute, only for Ransford Königsdoerffer to equalise for HSV in the 90.+2 minute, sending the match into extra time.

The tension was palpable for Grieß before the game, as he admitted to forgetting his captain's armband in the locker room, causing a moment of nervousness. However, his love for the game shone through, and he led his team admirably.

During interviews after the match, Grieß held an HSV jersey, gifted to him by former Germany U21 coach Stefan Kuntz. Despite playing for FK Pirmasens, Grieß's connection to HSV runs deep, as he was present as a ten-year-old with his father when FK Pirmasens beat Werder Bremen in the DFB-Pokal in 2006.

In a twist of fate, it was Königsdoerffer who scored the 2:1 for HSV in the 100th minute of extra time, but Grieß's goal was a significant moment for him, especially since he is a fan of the team.

It's worth noting that Grieß is also a member of the Hanseatic traditional club, demonstrating his enduring love for the city and its football culture. Despite FK Pirmasens' status as an Oberligist team, competing in the fifth tier of German football, their performance against HSV was commendable.

While there is no information available about Grieß becoming a member of HSV or receiving a jersey as a team member, his passion for the club is undeniable. As the dust settles on this emotional encounter, football fans can only look forward to seeing what the future holds for this dedicated player and his beloved HSV.

The Commission might find it fitting to include Yannick Grieß's passion for football, specifically his allegiance to Hamburg SV (HSV), in a proposal for a directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the protection of animals and the processing of personal data. Grieß's unwavering devotion to HSV, despite playing for Oberligist team FK Pirmasens, merits attention as a testament to enduring sports fandom.
