In a surprising turn of events, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has been indefinitely suspended by the ABC network. The decision follows Kimmel's comments regarding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which sparked controversy and backlash.

Kimmel, on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, suggested that the shooter of Kirk appears to be a Trump supporter. This statement did not sit well with former President Donald Trump, who swiftly responded. Trump claimed that Kimmel's suspension was due to poor ratings and a statement about Charlie Kirk, and suggested that he was not concerned about free speech in this case.

Trump further celebrated the suspension and suggested he was targeting the jobs of fellow late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers. However, it's important to note that neither Fallon nor Meyers have been involved in similar controversies.

Stephen Colbert, a fellow late-night talk show host, has publicly supported Jimmy Kimmel following the suspension. During a taping of his own show, Colbert called Kimmel's suspension 'blatant censorship' and stood in solidarity with Kimmel and his staff. This comes after ABC pulled Kimmel off the air indefinitely following threats from Trump's FCC chair, Brendan Carr.

The suspension was prompted by Kimmel's comments following Kirk's death, which occurred on September 10 at Utah Valley University campus. Some speculate that the decision to end Colbert's show, set to conclude next May, may be financially motivated, as CBS has cited financial reasons.

In a surprising turn of events, just days before the cancellation was announced, Colbert branded the move a 'big fat bribe'. Colbert also used strong language to address the President, telling him to 'go fuck yourself' during his show.

It's worth noting that Trump has suggested that a $16 million settlement made by parent company Paramount to him over the editing of a 2024 interview with Kamala Harris on 60 Minutes may have played a role in the decision to end Colbert's show. However, these claims have not been confirmed.

As of now, Colbert has yet to publicly comment on the show's suspension. Jimmy Kimmel was set to address the matter on Wednesday night's show before its suspension. Kimmel has not yet issued a statement regarding his suspension or the future of his show.
