"Superman Delivers Solid A- Cinemascore, Boasts Impressive Domestic Opening Weekend"

The much-anticipated return of Superman to the big screen is proving to be a blockbuster hit, with the film earning $22.5 million from Thursday previews in the US and Canada, according to Forbes Middle East [1][2]. Projections indicate that the movie could make around $130 million in its opening weekend, although the exact projected global box office earnings beyond the opening weekend remain unspecified.

The film, which has received an A- Cinemascore from audiences and a 82% "Fresh" rating from critics via Rotten Tomatoes, is expected to beat current forecasts of $115 million and finish with at least $125 million domestic. In North America, the estimated Friday cume for Superman is roughly $57 million, with about $34 million coming from Friday proper.

Saturday's figures domestic and global will confirm at least the minimum weekend outcome and help gauge the three-day multiplier. A summer 3x multiplier for Superman would be a cause for celebration at WBD and DC Studios headquarters today. A modest 2.7x final multiplier for Superman would place it well north of $600 million. If Superman's global earnings reach or surpass $250 million, it would guarantee a minimum of $500 million.

International numbers for Superman were at around $18 million entering the weekend, but Friday's figures for Superman in foreign markets topped $40 million. This weekend's figures will help determine if Superman is more likely to finish at the higher end or lower end of the $700-800 million range expected for its final earnings. There are decent odds that Superman could earn more than $140 million, if the positive buzz and public debate around the film stirs additional sense of must-see status.

For now, the expected final multiplier for Superman is between $700-800 million, with a most likely outcome of $750 million. The question this weekend will help answer is whether Superman will finish at the higher or lower end of this range, setting a new standard for the Superman franchise and solidifying its place among the greatest superhero films of all time.
