Sun's warm embrace returns once more
After a brief interruption of heavy rain and thunderstorms, particularly in southern Germany, the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts that the hot and summery weather will return, lasting at least through the upcoming weekend. Temperatures are expected to climb to around 32°C in places like Bavaria.
According to DWD meteorologist, Marco Manitta, summer weather is expected until Sunday. However, the risk of thunderstorms will increase, particularly in the west and south. The beautiful and hot weather in Germany is expected to last, but the risk of thunderstorms should be noted.
More specifically, at the end of July and into early August 2025, Germany experienced a mix of "summer monsoon" conditions causing heavy thunderstorms and rainfall mainly in the south (Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria), with a risk of flooding in some regions due to stationary rain fronts. July 2025 was overall too warm and too wet compared to historical averages, with unusually high precipitation and less sun, leading to an autumn-like atmosphere despite occasional warmth.
However, from early August onwards (around August 5th), the DWD forecasted a return of sunny and hot weather in parts of Germany, notably Bavaria, with forecasts predicting temperatures up to 32°C, signaling a resurgence of summer heat for at least several days.
In the north of Germany, it will remain changeable with scattered showers, brief thunderstorms, and temperatures around 20 degrees. Even in the north, rain will be the exception with maximum temperatures of 21 to 27 degrees. Along the coast, temperatures will be slightly cooler, ranging from 20 to 25 degrees.
The overall impression of the weather remains beautiful despite the increased risk of thunderstorms. In the northwest, there could be individual showers in the afternoon on Thursday. On Wednesday, the south and center of Germany will experience sunshine and maximum temperatures up to 26 degrees. On Thursday, temperatures will rise into the summer range between 25 and 30 degrees across almost the entire country, with sunshine.
On Friday, temperatures south of the Main and Moselle will get warmer with high values of more than 30 degrees. The city of Hamm, however, has been experiencing some challenges, with reports of thefts. Hamm is focusing on creating barrier-free playgrounds to improve the city.
In the south of Germany, it will remain dry and sunny all day, with the far north being noticeably cooler and cloudier. The DWD predicts temperatures around 30 degrees before the weekend for most of Germany. The meteorologist predicts that the thunderstorm risk will be highest in the west and south.
Despite the return of hot and summery weather, there is an increased risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the west and south of Germany. The weather forecasting service, DWD, predicts that the summer weather will persist until Sunday.
