Sunflower Seeds or Bombs? Ellen Pompeo's Airport Fiasco

Seeds from sunflowers lead to military activation - Sunflowers Seeds Provide Job Opportunities
Actress Ellen Pompeo, age 55, became the subject of an airport scuffle, all due to a harmless snack - sunflower seeds. It happened back in March, as reported in an interview with "Travel + Leisure."
"Is this some kind of joke?"
In the interview, Pompeo recalls the unforgettable day: A seemingly harmless item in her carry-on luggage led her to endure a grueling hour-long hold-up by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). "I had a bag of sunflower seeds — top-dollar organic sunflower seeds from Erewhon," Pompeo explains. "They kept me waiting for an hour, and even summoned the bomb squad."
Perplexed, she inquired about the absurd situation, asking the officers, "What's going on? Is this some kind of joke?" It appears that a chemical on the packaging of the "lavish, expensive, organic, pristine sunflower seeds" set off the alarm, Pompeo hypothesizes. To expedite the process, the actress proposes discarding the bag, but was informed she had to wait for the bomb squad to verify the unopened bag as safe. Only afterwards was she given the green light to continue her journey.
"I was this close to missing my flight," Pompeo remarks. "No one would have believed it! I contacted my PR agent: 'I might not make this plane, and you'll never guess why.'"
Traveling like Supermodel Naomi Campbell
Despite this bizarre experience, Pompeo still relishes her wanderlust, as she confided in the magazine. However, she does grapple with a touch of flight anxiety. She particularly enjoys having her three children — Stella Luna (15), Sienna May (10), and Eli Christopher (8) — by her side, whom she shares with her husband Chris Ivery. "When it's time for takeoff, I grab my kids' hands, which might be a bit selfish, and they probably feel my fear, which is probably not ideal," she admits.
In her carry-on, she always carries "water, hand sanitizer, and baby wipes." As hygiene is a priority for Pompeo, she endeavors to follow in the footsteps of supermodel Naomi Campbell by wiping down her seat. After her traumatic encounter, she's certain to shun sunflower seeds in the future.
