Sunderland Supports Popular Sea Rescue Tune, "The Lifeboat"
Sunderland Marine Sponsors Tribute Single to Celebrate RNLI's 200 Years of Service
Sunderland Marine, a North East-based insurer and part of global marine insurer NorthStandard, has sponsored a new single titled "The Lifeboat" by Skipinnish and The Fisherman's Friends. The proceeds from this tribute will be donated to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), a testament to Sunderland Marine's commitment to supporting maritime safety and the fishing community.
The single, released on August 14, 2022, is a heartfelt tribute to the RNLI and their 200 years of volunteer service saving lives at sea. Angus MacPhail, co-founder of Skipinnish and a Sunderland Marine member, played a crucial role in bringing "The Lifeboat" to life.
Craig McBurnie, Head of Sunderland Marine, expressed pride in supporting a project that celebrates the life-saving work of the RNLI and the spirit of the maritime community. This partnership aligns with Sunderland Marine's values of courage and a deep maritime connection, and is part of a broader ongoing effort to support maritime and fishing industries and their communities.
Sunderland Marine has a history of backing sustainability and safety initiatives in regional maritime sectors, including the Whitby Lobster Hatchery and coastal fishing line recycling programs. This sponsorship further reinforces their role as a responsible partner in maritime heritage.
Meanwhile, the North P&I Club has completed the integration of the Sunderland Marine Insurance Company Limited business into parent company The North of England Protecting and Indemnity Association Limited, effective from June 30, 2020. This integration follows a merger of interests between North and Sunderland Marine six years prior.
In addition to the new marine insurance product from North, designed for larger ocean-going vessels, Sunderland Marine continues to offer H&M insurance for fishing vessels and other small craft.
InterManager, a global trade association representing ship managers, is raising awareness of the fact that seafarers are dying needlessly in lifeboat accidents due to maritime legislation that doesn't require vessels to be manned during drills. This lack of manning during drills could lead to preventable accidents and fatalities.
In conclusion, Sunderland Marine's sponsorship of "The Lifeboat" single represents a direct financial and promotional support for the RNLI, enhancing awareness and funding for their crucial maritime rescue work, while also reinforcing Sunderland Marine's role in maritime community support and sustainability efforts.
