Sunderland's Eliezer Mayenda Extends Stay, Prepares for Premier League Return

Sunderland's star forward Eliezer Mayenda has signed a new five-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2030. The news comes as the Black Cats prepare for their return to the Premier League after a five-year absence.

Mayenda, who scored the equaliser in Sunderland's play-off final triumph over Sheffield United last season, had a remarkable campaign in the Championship 2024-25. He netted 10 goals in 40 outings, a total only bettered by teammate Wilson Isidor (13). Mayenda's goal involvements (15) were equal to Isidor's total, making him a crucial part of Sunderland's attack.

The versatile forward showed significant improvement as the season progressed, particularly during the playoffs where he played as a centre-forward. His performances in decisive matches highlighted his importance to the team, as he scored two crucial goals, including the equaliser at Wembley.

Mayenda's dribbling skills were also on display, as he completed 54 dribbles, second only to Patrick Roberts in the second tier. His ability to play as a striker, a No 10, or on either wing adds an extra dimension to Sunderland's attack.

Sunderland have been active in the transfer market, signing several new players to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. New additions include Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra, Chemsdine Talbi, Noah Sadiki, Granit Xhaka, Robin Roefs, Reinildo Mandava, Enzo Le Fee, and Marc Guiu. Le Fee's loan move to Sunderland has been made permanent after a successful stint, while Guiu joins on loan from Chelsea.

Sunderland have pencilled in friendlies against Augsburg and Rayo Vallecano before their Premier League opener, which will see them face West Ham United at home on August 16. Mayenda, who has stated that Sunderland is "my team, my club, my city," will be eager to make his mark in the Premier League and help Sunderland secure a successful return to the top flight.

  1. Eliezer Mayenda's goal involvements in the Championship 2024-25 were equally matched with teammate Wilson Isidor's total, showcasing his vital role in Sunderland's health of the attack.
  2. As Sunderland gear up for their return to the Premier League, they've bolstered their squad with the addition of European-league players, like Chelsea loanee Marc Guiu and permanent signing Noah Sadiki.
  3. Eliezer Mayenda, a versatile forward who can play as a striker, No 10, or on either wing, hopes to make an impact in the sports of football with his dribbling skills in the Premier League, having previously displayed this ability during his standout performances in the English second tier.
