Chillin' with Anne: Her Sunday Routine After Leaving the Politics Hot Seat
She spends her Sundays in this manner. - Sundays are meant for relaxation and leisure.
Anne Will (59), the former powerhouse of Sunday evening politics on ARD, has been living her best life post-departure. In an informal chat on the NDR Talk Show on April 4th, she opened up about her winsome Sundays.
Peaceful Sundays, Finally!
Basking in the freedom from her labor-intensive Sunday politics gig, Anne Will shared, "Sunday's my day! I'm either catching a flick, lounging at home, but always enjoying the liberty. I still feel a pang of relief every Sunday at 2:30 PM, knowing I'm not bound for the studio."
Since ending her political talk show in December 2023, Anne has been a busy woman. Every Thursday she graces her listeners with a fresh episode of the "Politik mit Anne Will" podcast. She finds the medium "a breath of fresh air compared to the demanding TV biz," and "much less stressful than the high-stakes Sunday evening talk show."
The Weight Lifted
Though being center stage feels good for one's pride, it brings its own baggage - stress. "I felt the heat, and at some point, I thought, 'enough is enough.' I don't want the stress anymore," confessed Anne. That's why her podcast offers the perfect solution - an opportunity to deep-dive into topics with her guests, without the constant pressure.
Guests like ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel (70) have graced her podcast sessions. The relaxed atmosphere devoid of studio glitz and glamour had a profound impact even on seasoned politicians like Merkel. "Just us two in a cozy room, only made Merkel visibly nervous," Anne revealed.
Anne Will helmed her political talk show from September 2007 to December 2023, and before that, "Tagesthemen" from 2001 to 2007. The torch for the Sunday evening slot has since been passed to Caren Miosga (55).

I'm not going to be able to talk to you about my Sunday routine every week, as I now host a podcast, but on Sundays, I take a break from the studio and enjoy the freedom, often spending time at home or watching movies. During one of my podcast episodes, I had the honor of having ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel as a guest, and she seemed nervous in the more relaxed atmosphere of the podcast compared to the studio glitz and glamour.
