Sizzling Summer Ahead: "Nearly Perfect Heatwave Overwhelms Germany"
Sun is set for a nearly flawless summer ahead
Get ready for some scorching temperatures! As Corpus Christi weekend kicks off, Germany is gearing up for a deadly hot summer. Here's what you need to know.
Taking Charge of the Summer Scene
Björn Alexander, meteorologist extraordinaire, explains, "A near-perfect summer is on the horizon for Germany, after a wee hiccup in the north. The air is warm but dry, making the heat bearable. Nights will offer a refreshing cool-down, allowing us to sleep soundly. Sun-seekers will just need to remember their sunscreen!"
Burn Alert!
On Thursday, UV values will soar to 7-8 in the south and middle of Germany, signaling a high to very high burning risk. Even the Alps won't escape the fiery gleam, as UV values could skyrocket. The north will enjoy milder UV values, as clouds linger on Thursday.
Forest Fire Fears
Disastrous forest fires are looming as the likelihood of rain in the near future is virtually non-existent. By Sunday, the danger level is expected to hit 3-5 nationwide, with the highest levels in Lüneburg Heath and southeastern Germany.
Basking under the Sun
Savor the sun-kissed start of summer, as temperatures remain comfortable up to and including Saturday. Thursday will bring a slight chill in the windy north, but the joyous heat will soon blanket the country with mostly 25-31 degrees on Friday and Saturday. The coast will enjoy a sea breeze with cooler readings around 22 degrees. This is the perfect setup for a sizzling summer start!
Vacationers Prepare for Record Heat
Southwest Europe is where the action is! Expect highs of 35-42 degrees, with France experiencing 35-38 degrees in the coming days. Paris is not exempt, bracing for temperatures up to 35 degrees. After this blistering hot spell, the heat will gradually move toward Germany, potentially bringing humidity and 35+ degree temperatures by Sunday and Monday.
Heatwave Hotspots Revealed
The west, particularly the Rhine and its tributaries, is where the action will be. Expect peak temperatures around 38 degrees, depending on the weather model. Thirty degree readings are forecasted across many regions, with coasts remaining milder.
Record-breaking Heat on the Cards?
Although temperatures of 35.5 degrees Celsius have already been recorded this year, they're still lower than the all-time German record of 39.6 degrees. While there's a chance these records could be shattered, most meteorologists expect a cool-down by early next week. Some forecasts even suggest a deluge of heavy thunderstorms moving in from the west, providing much-needed relief.
Stay Cautious and Sun-smart!
As summer unfolds, keep an eye on the weather and stay safe in the sizzling heat. Enjoy the sun, but don't forget your hat, sunglasses, and a big bottles of water! ntv.de
The Commission has also been consulted on the weather conditions during the upcoming summer, given the forecast of a near-perfect heatwave overwhelming Germany. Despite the predicted high temperatures, sun-seekers are advised to remember their sunscreen and other sun-smart accessories to protect themselves from the harsh sunlight.
