Rainy and Stormy Weekend Ahead: Not Your Typical Summer Yet
Summer not heating up early - frequent thunderstorms and hail during Pentecost period
Brace yourself for a wet and cool weekend! The dreaded overcast skies, showers, and even the odd thunderstorm are set to make an appearance, throwing a spanner in the works of a sun-drenched summer. The brief respite from Wednesday's turbulent thunderstorms in southeastern Germany has passed, leaving behind a damp and humid atmosphere ripe for more stormy weather.
Friday kicks off the long weekend with a mix of clouds, showers, and isolated thunderstorms. Soak in the southeastern region's 26°C heat if you can, as it's the highest we'll see across the country. The rest of Germany will experience a chilly 17°C to 24°C, with a hint of wind to make things uncomfortable.
The weather scarcely improves over the weekend. Saturday and Pentecost Sunday are gloomy and damp with frequent thunderstorms possible. Temperatures will remain between 16°C and 22°C, only touching 25°C in the southeastern region, the closest we'll come to a hint of summer.
Wait, Europe's in the throes of a severe weather situation, right?
Despite the stormy forecast, a full-blown severe weather outbreak sweeping across Germany is unlikely. However, there's still a chance of isolated, powerful thunderstorms breaking out, particularly south of the Danube, on Saturday. Be prepared for gusts of wind, hail, and torrential rain, some of which could be quite intense. Thunderstorms might even make an appearance in the north and central parts of the country. Keep your eyes on the skies!
Don't let your guard down on Sunday, as thunderstorms persist, and the wind picks up speed, especially in the mountains and coastal areas. The Alps will see heavy rainfall, but overall, the severe weather risk remains low across the country.
By Pentecost Monday, high pressure will bring an end to the wet weather, and clearer skies, along with higher temperatures, seem imminent. Expect temperatures to rise gradually, with highs between 16°C and 22°C initially, reaching a sizzling 30°C towards the end of the week.
