Düsseldorf Muslim Association's Annual Sports and Family Festival Celebrates Community and Cultural Integration

The Düsseldorf Muslim Association (KDDM) recently hosted its annual Sports and Family Festival, a vibrant event that brings together Muslim families and promotes harmony and camaraderie in Düsseldorf.

This year's festival was marked by a diverse lineup of activities, including soccer tournaments for both senior and junior teams, friendly matches, and running competitions that started from noon. The junior team from Masjid Ar'Raman in Flingern emerged victorious without a loss.

The festival also featured a range of family-friendly games and attractions. Young visitors enjoyed bouncy castles, can tossing, archery, craft activities, face painting, an obstacle course, a XXL dart football wall, and more. A popular "Blaulicht area" showcased police and paramedic vehicles and equipment.

The cultural programme was equally captivating, with Bosnian folklore performances on the harp by Zainab Lax, stand-up comedy by Benaissa Lamroubal, and a warm welcome from Mayor Stephan Keller, who expressed his wish for breaking the fast together during Ramadan to become a tradition.

The festival was sponsored by Volker Schleede, representing Düsseldorf's Stadtsparkasse. The senior final was played late in the evening, with the Islamisch-Albanisches Zentrum from Oberbilk emerging as the champions. The interreligious team, however, managed to secure a win against the NRW parliamentary team in an exciting soccer match.

The festival was well-attended, with approximately 10,000 guests enjoying the festivities. Comedian Benaissa participated in the 3-kilometer run, performed on stage, and enjoyed the festival with his family throughout the day.

Mayor Stephan Keller lauded the festival as an excellent example of peaceful coexistence among different religious communities in Düsseldorf. The event concluded with a delightful spectacle of giant bubbles created by a bubble artist, bringing smiles to visitors of all ages.
