Holy Cross Figure Skating Team Shines in Inaugural Year

The Holy Cross Figure Skating Club, a recently established team at Holy Cross, is making waves in the world of collegiate skating. With a coach, a budget, structured practices, and competitions, the team is off to a strong start in its first year.

The team, which started with just two sophomores, has grown to include seven freshmen, one junior, and a coach who is a current junior. Every skater in the club has worked tirelessly since September, both on and off the ice, to build a solid foundation for the team's future success.

Coach Annabelle Rie '26 expressed pride in the team's accomplishments in such a short amount of time. She reminded her skaters that they are on the ice because they love to skate, and their passion for the sport is evident in their performances.

The team competed in the MIT Figure Skating Classic and is expected to compete in three collegiate competitions next year: New York University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Sacred Heart University. The team's hard work paid off on April 5 and 6, when every skater walked away with a medal at the Providence Open.

In addition to competing, the Holy Cross Figure Skating Club is looking forward to hosting two shows next year. They hope to host a Christmas show and an end of the year show in May.

The team also made a statement regarding the tragedy of American Airlines Flight 5342. The MIT Figure Skating Club, where the team competed, was affected by the flight's crash, and the Holy Cross team offered their condolences to the affected families and the skating community as a whole.

The team also participated in the Trap N' Skate event, which was hosted by the Black Student Union (BSU), Men of Color Athletes (MOCA), and Women of Color Athletes (WOCA) at the Hart Center.

As the team continues to grow and compete, they are expected to gain an additional 8-10 skaters next year, increasing their chances for nationals in subsequent years. To stay up-to-date on the team's specific accomplishments and plans, you can visit Holy Cross's athletic department website, contact the team coach or sports media relations, or check recent college skating competition results databases.
