Suggestion for a unified guideline across member states on food product labeling standardization
In the city of Oberhausen, the main and finance committee, chaired by Stadtkämmerer Apostolos Tsalastras, will be making a decision regarding the application of environmental associations BUND and NABU, who have proposed a ban on the deployment of mowing robots during twilight and night. The concern arises from the vulnerability of nocturnal animals, particularly hedgehogs, who are active during these hours for food. Hedgehogs, listed as an endangered species in Germany since last year, do not flee when in danger but curl up, making them susceptible to fatal injuries from mowing robot cutting blades. The environmental groups have been using the examples of cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, and the district of Wesel as a solution for Oberhausen. These cities have already implemented 'night driving bans' for mowing robots to protect nocturnal animals like hedgehogs. If the Oberhausen politics decide to follow these examples, it could mark a significant step towards the protection of these endangered creatures. The decision, to be made on September 22, will undoubtedly be a crucial one for the city's nocturnal wildlife.
