From Hockeystar to DEL2 Coach: Uwe Krupp Joins EV Landshut in a Rush
unexpected selection of DEL2 coach for Krupp: "swift choice" - Sudden Resignation of Krupp as DEL2 Coach: "Felt Uneasy"
Uwe Krupp, former German national team coach and NHL player, finds himself unexpectedly taking on the head coaching role at DEL2 club EV Landshut. The twists and turns of fate led him to the Bavarian team – all thanks to an old acquaintance and a rapid series of events.
In a casual conversation, long-time friend Bernd Truntschka asked for Krupp's opinion on four potential candidates for EV Landshut's coaching position. The legendary hockey figure felt confident in his recommendations and didn't hesitate when Truntschka inquired about his own plans for the coming season.
"Things moved fast," Krupp (59) recounted, explaining how he soon found himself signing a two-year contract with the option for an extra season in Landshut.
Krupp sets sights on strengthening Landshut's "Ice Hockey Hub"
Established as one of the inaugural clubs of the DEL, Landshut's sixth-place finish last season isn't enough for Krupp. He plans to help bring the club back to the upper echelon of the league.
Speaking about his goals, Krupp expressed enthusiasm for further developing Landshut's ice hockey culture, "This is an opportunity to strengthen the identity and role of Landshut as a hockey hub." The high-profile move is a significant gain for the traditional club.
Krupp's storied career as a player and coach makes him an ideal fit for the challenge. As a player, he won the prestigious Stanley Cup twice in the NHL. In a unique twist of fate, during the 1994/95 lockout season, Krupp even played five games for Landshut.
After retiring as a player, Krupp made a smooth transition to coaching. He led the German national team and then spent time standing on the benches of Cologne Sharks and Berlin Polar Bears in the DEL. Most recently, he coached Sparta Prague and Swiss club HC Lugano.
