From NHL Pro to DEL2 Coach: A Sudden Turn for Uwe Krupp with EV Landshut

sudden dismissal of Krupp as the team's coach: 'Things moved rather swiftly' - Sudden Change in Krupp's Coaching Position: "Feeling Uneasy"

Uwe Krupp, an icon in German ice hockey, finds himself back in the scene as the new coach for DEL2 club EV Landshut. The former German national coach shared during his presentation that good old buddy Bernd Truntschka – Landshut's president – had reached out to him for his thoughts on four potential coaching candidates.

"I sold them pretty good, right?" Krupp joked. Friends for years, Truntschka eventually asked him, "So, what are you up to next year?" Leaning back, Krupp (59) recalls that things moved fast, signing a two-year contract with an option for an additional season in Landshut just a few days later.

Krupp's mission: "Strengthen the Ice Hockey Heritage"

Originating as one of the founding clubs of the prestigious DEL, Landshut aims to rise from its sixth-place standing in the previous season. Krupp sees this as an opportunity to boost the ice hockey culture in Landshut. "I get a chance to uphold and advance this heritage in a traditional club like Landshut," Krupp explained, adding that his hiring marks a significant milestone for the club.

Krupp is a titan. With two Stanley Cup victories under his belt in the NHL, Krupp played briefly for Landshut during a lockout season back in 1994/95. As a coach, he's led the German national team, the Cologne Sharks, the Berlin Polar Bears, Sparta Prague, and most recently HC Lugano in Switzerland.
