In a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, Vice President Kamala Harris discussed her experiences in public service, her new book, and her views on the current political landscape.

During the interview, Harris was asked about her predictions regarding former President Donald Trump's actions if he had won the 2020 election. Harris acknowledged her correct predictions but expressed that she didn't foresee "the capitulation" to the current president, suggesting she had been "naive."

Harris also addressed her decision not to run for California governor, stating that she doesn't want to go back into public office at the moment. Instead, Harris wants to travel the country, listen to people, and talk with them without it being transactional.

One of the main topics of discussion was Harris's tenure as Vice President, the challenges of the 2020 election aftermath, and the significance of fulfilling constitutional roles even under extreme pressure. Harris praised the comportment and courage required during the January 6 certification process and highlighted the gravity of public service responsibilities during such crises.

Harris's thoughts conveyed a somber but committed view of the current U.S. political landscape and the necessity of public officials to uphold democratic duties despite personal and political difficulties. Harris mentioned President Donald Trump's second term as a factor in her belief about the system's weakness and stated that she believes the current systems are not strong enough to defend fundamental principles.

In addition to discussing her experiences in public service, Harris promoted her new book, "107 Days," which details her 2024 bid for president. The book is a behind-the-scenes tell-all about her shortest-ever run for the White House after President Joe Biden abandoned his reelection campaign. Harris stated that she is always going to be part of the fight, and this stance won't change. She also said it's evident that the system is broken, but it doesn't mean giving up.

Harris joked about her husband, Doug Emhoff, for not organizing her 60th birthday celebration well, which took place just weeks before the election. Harris also mentioned that she stopped watching the news for a while after leaving office because it was too distressing for her.
