Suburban comedy-drama 'Adulthood' unfolds with dark excellence in a humorous yet poignant exploration of adult life's complexities

In the upcoming release from Republic Pictures, "Adulthood", audiences are treated to a unique blend of tension and lighter moments, as Kaya Scodelario stars as Meg, a character who juggles mundane tasks with violent actions in this suburban comedy of errors.

Directed by Noel Clarke, the film explores themes of legacy and recognizing parents as human and complex. Scodelario's character finds herself in a precarious situation when she and her brother, Josh Gad's Noah Robles, discover a 30-year-old corpse in their basement.

Noah Robles, a failed screenwriter, was raised on TV police procedurals. However, when faced with the reality of a corpse in his home, he seeks advice from an unlikely source - Josh Gad's character offers a series of tips on moving a dead body, including using towels to prevent leaving evidence.

The discovery of the corpse unleashes a series of events that include extortion, sword play, and swirling detectives. The movie's plot thickens as more bodies pile up, raising questions about what one would do in a similar situation.

"Adulthood" has a nifty satirical edge, balancing the seriousness of the situation with humourous moments. The movie is rated R for violence, language, drug use, and brief sexual material.

Meg, despite the danger, brings her young children to a dangerous payoff meet, adding another layer of complexity to the film. The movie's running time is 97 minutes, and it received three stars out of four.

The film also features a conversation between siblings during a child's flag-football game, providing a stark contrast to the darker elements of the story. "Adulthood" finds a balance between the serious and the light-hearted, offering a unique cinematic experience.

"Adulthood" will be available in select theaters on Friday, with streaming options available on Sept. 23. Don't miss out on this suburban comedy of errors that will leave you questioning your own moral compass.
