Submitted Charge Sheets for 19 Casesrelated to July Uprising
In the aftermath of the July Uprising, the Bangladesh Police has taken significant strides in the investigation and prosecution of the cases linked to the events. As of now, charge sheets have been submitted in 19 formal cases, according to recent reports.
Of these 19 cases, 8 are murder cases, and the remaining 11 fall under other legal sections. The murder cases were submitted in various districts, including Sherpur (3 cases), Feni (1), Chandpur (1), Cumilla (1), Kurigram (1), and the Chattogram Metropolitan Police jurisdiction (1).
In addition to these districts, other cases include submissions by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Barishal Metropolitan Police, Chapainawabganj (3), Sirajganj (2), Pabna (1), and Jamalpur (1). Two more cases are under investigation by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
The aim of the Bangladesh Police is to bring the perpetrators of all cases to justice. Senior police officers are monitoring the cases filed during the student mass uprising to ensure proper and transparent legal action.
It's important to note that while approximately 1,930 cases have been filed, naming over 100,000 accused, charge sheets have been submitted in only these 19 official cases so far. This suggests that many cases remain under investigation or are possibly inflated or false.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) related to crimes against humanity during the uprising reports 30 miscellaneous cases with 209 accused, with charges submitted in 5 and formal charges framed in 3 of those cases. Currently, 84 accused individuals, including some high-profile political figures, are in custody relating to crimes against humanity during the uprising.
As the investigations and prosecutions continue throughout various districts of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Police is working diligently to complete the investigation of all other cases filed. The public is encouraged to stay informed and patient as the justice system works to address the events of the July Uprising.
The police have submitted charge sheets in 11 cases of the July Uprising that do not involve murder, with districts such as Dhaka, Barishal, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, and Jamalpur among those with submissions. Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is handling 30 miscellaneous cases related to crimes against humanity, with 84 accused individuals, including some high-profile political figures, currently in custody.
