In honour of its 75th anniversary, Orient has unveiled a collection of limited-edition dive-style watches from its Mako and Mako 40 families. These timepieces showcase robust automatic movements, vintage-inspired designs, and special commemorative details.
Key Features
The Mako 40 watches boast a reliable automatic in-house caliber with hacking and hand-winding capabilities, such as the Caliber F6722. The power reserve is approximately 40 hours, ensuring stable and consistent accuracy across models.
The watches feature a stainless steel case, with the Mako 40 models measuring around 39.9mm in diameter, 12.8mm thick, and 46.5mm in lug-to-lug length. The Mako mechanical 75th Anniversary model, on the other hand, has a slightly larger case size of 41.8mm width and 46.8mm height.
The dials vary among the models. The Mako 40 75th Anniversary special edition sports a white dial with luminous hour markers and hands, as well as a date function. Some versions, like the Peanuts collaboration, come with leather straps and are limited to 3,800 pieces worldwide. The Mako mechanical 75th Anniversary edition offers a day-date display with English and Japanese Kanji wheels.
Water resistance stands at 200m for the Mako 40, complete with a screwed-down crown and unidirectional 120-click bezel suitable for diving. The crystal is sapphire, providing durability and scratch resistance.
Each watch in this anniversary collection bears special engravings on the case back, indicating the 75th anniversary and individual serial numbers, emphasising their collectible nature.
New Offerings
Orient has revealed five new watches in total, available in three colour ways for the Mako 40 series and two for the Mako series. The Mako 40 watches come in green, red, and dark grey, while the Mako series features a pale blue sunburst-pattern dial and a matching stainless steel case and bracelet.
The red Mako 40 model, for example, boasts a stainless steel bracelet that matches both its case and bezel. One of the Mako watches has already sold out on Orient's own website.
The watches are priced between £330 and £400. Each model comes in Orient's special 75th anniversary box and is limited to 6,000 examples per variant.
