Stuttgart Roundtable Aims to Boost Healthcare Immigration
On November 3, 2025, the fourth roundtable on 'Immigration of Healthcare and Nursing Professionals' took place in Stuttgart. Led by Ministers Manne Lucha and Marion Gentges, the event brought together representatives from various organizations to discuss strategies for securing skilled labor in healthcare.
The roundtable, established in 2023, aims to promote targeted skilled labor immigration and integration in the healthcare sector. Minister Manne Lucha emphasized the importance of international skilled workers for current and future healthcare provision. Susanne Bay, President of the Stuttgart Regional Council, highlighted the key challenge of meeting demand for skilled labor, particularly in healthcare, over the coming decades.
Participants discussed international cooperation, with a focus on the Indian state of Maharashtra. They also explored next steps for immigration procedures and the role of the State Agency for Skilled Labor Immigration (LZF), launched in April 2025. The LZF has already received around 600 applications for fast-track procedures in healthcare and nursing. Minister Marion Gentges urged participants to promote the LZF as a success story delivering fast and concrete solutions.
All participants agreed that joint action, fair migration policies, and swift qualification recognition are crucial for successful skilled labor immigration in healthcare. Looking ahead, Minister Manne Lucha will undertake a delegation trip to India later this year to build partnerships and networks, further strengthening international cooperation in the sector.
