Stunt performer files lawsuit against Kevin Costner for allegedly subjecting them to an unscripted rape scene during the filming of 'Horizon' Chapter 2.
A stunt performer, Devyn LaBella, has filed a lawsuit against actor Kevin Costner, his production companies Horizon Series Inc. and Territory Pictures, accusing them of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on May 27, 2025, alleges that LaBella was subjected to an unscripted, unscheduled, and violent rape scene during the filming of 'Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2.'
The lawsuit claims that after performing a scripted rape scene with an intimacy coordinator present, LaBella was later directed by Costner to participate in an unplanned and unscripted rape scene with a different male actor, without prior notice or the presence of an intimacy coordinator. LaBella alleges that she had no opportunity to escape the situation and suffered permanent trauma as a result.
Costner's legal team has denied the allegations, calling them baseless and a "shakedown." They contend that LaBella's claims are contradicted by her own actions and the facts of the situation, expressing confidence that Costner will prevail in court.
At the core of the lawsuit is the allegation that on the second day of filming, Costner added an unplanned and unscripted rape scene with a different male actor after a planned and scripted rape scene featuring LaBella. According to the lawsuit, LaBella was left traumatized, with effects that have upended her career and caused lasting psychological harm.
LaBella is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, as well as anti-sexual harassment and anti-sexual violence training and an apology from the defendants. It is unclear whether Costner will return to the third chapter of 'Horizon: An American Saga.' LaBella has not been cast in any projects since her work on the second chapter of the film.
