In a breathtaking tournament debut, U21 national player Nick Woltemade scored a hat-trick against Slovenia, marking the third time he's achieved this remarkable feat for the German U21[1][3][4]. Speculations about his future have been rife, but Woltemade keeps it cool for now.

After the impressive 3:0 (2:0) victory against Slovenia, not even the iconic "Major Tom" tune could ruffle the 23-year-old striker's composure[2]. "The triple tastes great," Woltemade shared post-match, tucking the match ball under his training jacket, "That was a crucial start."

Sports "He's on our radar" Woltemade's scoring spree sparks interest from top-tier clubs Woltemade's impressive EM performance matched that of Luca Waldschmidt in 2019 against Serbia, making Woltemade the first German U21 player since then to score three goals in an EM game[4]. Previously, in the EM warm-up against Spain in March, Woltemade had also bagged a hat-trick.

Antonio Di Salvo, the DFB coach, described Woltemade's series as "eerie," hinting at a potential continuation of this streak. Waldschmidt held the top scorer title at the time with seven goals, though Germany lost to Spain in the final (1:2). Woltemade's impressive form has laid the groundwork for similar success, but the player remained unbothered by the speculations surrounding his future. "Transfer talk's not on my mind right now," Woltemade stated casually.

Football "New kid on the block" Woltemade's U21 sets off on dream EM start Rudi Voeller, the DFB Youth sports director, expressed his satisfaction with Woltemade's goal after missed chances in the Nations League[3]. The last German U21 player to score multiples goals at an EM was Florian Wirtz in the 2021 semi-final against the Netherlands (2:1)[4].

"We weren't too sure what to expect. We knew little about our opponents. So, we're incredibly pleased," Woltemade added, "And that's why such a start feels amazing. I may not have played many tournaments, but it all feels fantastic." Despite being eliminated in the group stage of the 2019 EM with the German U17, Woltemade's performance, particularly his three goals against Italy, marked a significant improvement[4].
