Soccer Scuffle: Bayern Munich's Attack in Turmoil
Stunned Kimmich Warns Sane: Tread Carefully
Cincinnati (dpa) - Germany captain Joshua Kimmich vocalizes the need for immediate action in Bayern Munich's offense following the unsuccessful pursuit of Florian Wirtz and the exits of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller. "Naturally, you feel we could do something. Flo isn't coming, Leroy is out, and Thomas is out, too," the 30-year-old stated on Saturday evening (local time), just hours before the German soccer champions' opening match against Auckland City in the Club World Cup.
Transfer Drama: Spurs Bound?
Bayern Munich's coveted player Wirtz (22) has chosen English champions Liverpool FC over Bayer Leverkusen, much to the dismay of the Munich brass. Müller's contract has only been extended minimally until after the club's World Cup gig in the USA. Post the tournament, the 35-year-old is set to bid farewell to his cherished club following a staggering 25 years. Moreover, striker Mathys Tel (20) is rumored to be on the verge of a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur, following a loan spell with the London club.
Coach Vincent Kompany wants to put transfer issues on the backburner. "The solution doesn't have to come now, but after the tournament," the Belgian said at the press conference at the TQL Stadium. He also addressed Sané extensively.
The 29-year-old has signed a lucrative three-year contract with Galatasaray Istanbul this week. Despite this, he is expected to play in up to four matches at the World Cup before his contract expires at the end of the month. Kimmich referred to this situation as "extraordinary" in Cincinnati.
Kompany: "Leroy can lend a hand"
Before the match against Auckland, Kompany indicated that he wished to utilize Sané. "Leroy can help. He's still our player," said the Bayern coach. "We didn't want to lose our offensive firepower." As national player Jamal Musiala is slated to be carefully reintroduced following a severe muscle injury, subsequent to the first World Cup matches. "It offers us time to bring Jamal back into form. We might have Leroy for the first four games," said Kompany.
Kimmich wasn't taken aback that Sané left FC Bayern after five years. "I would say the decision was somewhat predictable," he remarked. Yet, he was surprised by Sané's relocation. "What surprises me is that Leroy is going to Turkey." With Galatasaray, Sané stands to earn significantly more in the next three contract years than Bayern's club leaders proposed for a contract extension.
