Stunned by Youthful Backing from Spectators - Stunned Friends Marvel at Soaring Interest of Youthful Audience
The brothers Karl-Heinz and Bernd Ulrich, better known as the Schlager duo Die Amigos, are unexpectedly attracting a youthful following—even among children: "Schlager is doing quite well, especially among a select few," shared Karl-Heinz Ulrich (76) with the German Press Agency.
Perhaps, the band's rising popularity among the young generation can be traced back to their lyrics, as young listeners today appear to be more thoughtful compared to three decades ago. Countless young fans and even youth line the front rows, singing in sync to their tunes.
Hailing from Central Hesse, the Amigos brothers stand out for their approachable demeanor and tackling socially relevant topics in their music. From homelessness to pollution to child abuse, they shine a light on pressing issues while advocating for the "Weisser Ring" victim protection organization. However, their albums are not complete without tracks designed for the disco fox—providing sing-along favorites for dancing and unwinding, as Bernd Ulrich (74) put it.
Music and entertainment scarcely cause stress for the Amigos
The duo's rigorous schedule touring with their music leaves them unfazed, as they share. "What's stressful? If someone can't open the gate properly, that'd burn one out," said Bernd Ulrich. Neither stress nor burnout are common experiences for the pair. "If you have to decide between apple cake and Black Forest cherry cake, then that's stressful, but not what we do because that's what we enjoy."
Regardless, they are diligent about planning their performances. For example, they would refuse to perform on Mallorca, despite multiple offers. "We've also been asked to join a cruise—no way!" They avoid such engagements because they already have packed halls at their concerts in Germany.
"We have plenty on our plates. We turn down countless offers due to limitations and personal preferences, keeping our yearly performances to approximately 70, 80 shows," explained Bernd Ulrich. The secret to their success, he asserts, lies in simplicity: "Stay calm, honest, fair, and friendly. We are like the audience."
